Volunteer: Mines Alumni - Tell Your Story

Calling all Mines Alumni - near & far!

Mines is looking for alumni to submit a short 2–3-minute video to support all first- and second-year students in their CSM 101 & 202 courses.  Your video will be influential in helping students consider the breadth of majors available to them and what the experience and opportunities are like for that area of study.  Or how prioritizing your well-being/wellness in your personal or professional life has impacted you.  Specifically, the school would like stories from alumni that can speak on any of the below topics:

Decided to change majors while at MinesMade a career change from their selected majorMade a significant career after establishing yourself in your professionHow Mines supported your career growth 10+ years outHow prioritizing your wellness impacted your personal & professional life

The videos should not be more than 2-3 minutes long and the process is very easy to follow along and fulfill.  We hope to receive videos before the end of June.

All stories and all experiences are welcome.  Please support the next generation of Orediggers by sharing your Mines and professional experience.  Someone will be in touch with detailed instructions on how to prepare and submit your video once you register using the blue "Respond" button at the top of the page.

Volunteer: Convocation - 2026

Convocation marks the official welcome to campus for all new students and families. This year, Convocation takes place on Saturday, August 15, and Sunday, August 16, and we are looking for Mines Alumni volunteers to help! Be a part of the first experience the new class has on campus by registering to help with the Student Line-Up & Procession for both Convocation ceremonies.

In this role, you will assist Mines faculty and staff in organizing the student line-up in Steinhauer Field House and the processional into Lockridge Arena. Come with your Oredigger pride and be ready to talk with excited students.

Volunteers only need to stay until the start of the ceremony but are welcome to stay through the ceremony. All volunteers will receive a Mines T-shirt and hat as a thank you for your time.

Volunteer: Oredigger Camp 2026

Mines Alumni - volunteers are needed to support Oredigger Camp 2026!  Oredigger Camp is a 2 1/2 day gathering of incoming first-year and transfer students prior to the beginning of fall semester.  It allows the students to engage and build relationships with fellow students, faculty/staff, and alumni as they participate in challenges, games, and activities.  Further information on the Oredigger Camp experience, from a student perspective, can be found here

There are two Camps this year, both at the YMCA of the Rockies - Estes Park.  Travel/Lodging will be on your own.  If you want to stay at the YMCA, please make reservations early as space will be limited.  The camps take place over Aug 16th-18th and Aug 18th-20th.  Volunteers are needed for the second day of each session only - Aug. 17th & Aug. 19th.  Lunch and some swag will be provided to volunteers on those days.

Below is a summary of volunteer expectations:

Volunteers will lead small groups of campers through engineering challenges and reflection activities. Engineering challenges push campers to work together as a team, think outside the box, and put ideas into motion. Alumni help establish how these challenges translate into engineering careers. Reflection activities encourage campers to think about who they are and what they want their college experience to look like. Volunteers should have fun and chat with campers and counselors!

Exact volunteer positions will be provided when you check in at camp.

Lunch will be provided.

Register by Monday, August 3rd. Please register below by clicking the "Respond" button and selecting the day(s) you would like to join.  Further communication will be provided to volunteers closer to camp.

This event will most likely be these students' first interactions with alums and will allow them to see the strong bond that can be created with the school as they navigate through their time at Colorado School of Mines and one day become ambassadors like yourselves.

Volunteer: M Climb Support - 2026

Join fellow Mines alumni volunteers to support the biggest tradition at Mines - the M Climb!  The M Climb happens on Friday, August 21 and there are two volunteer opportunities available.  Alumni can remain on campus to help weigh rocks before the students climb Mt. Zion, or you can join us on top of Mt. Zion to hand out treats and cheer on the students ascend to the "M." Come and be a part of this signature student experience and welcome the newest generation of Orediggers.

Shift Details - Please choose the shift below that best fits your schedule and interests!

Shift 1) 7:00 am - 9:00 am - weighing rocks in the morning. This is the shortest volunteer time commitment, and volunteers are done once the final wave of students begin the climb.

Shift 2) 7:00 am - 12:00 pm - handing out ice pops to students on top of Mt. Zion. This is a longer time commitment as it requires joining the carpool ascending the mountain at 7 am and remaining at the top until the students descend.

It is possible for volunteers to participate in both activities, BUT no vehicles are allowed to drive Mt. Zion once the climb begins. Volunteers who are interested in doing both will have to hike Mt. Zion with the students to reach the M. If you are interested in this option, then please register for both shifts below and John Griffin will be in touch with further details.

Additional details:

M Climb activities will take place rain or shine, so please dress appropriately. Sunscreen is highly encouraged. Coffee and donuts will be provided in the morning. Volunteers are invited to join the Mines BBQ after the M Climb. The BBQ starts at 11:30 am at the Kafadar Commons.
