Volunteer: CSM 250 Mock Interview Night Spring 2026

CSM 250: Engineering Your Career Path is a 1-credit course open to undergraduate students designed to help them with career exploration, career planning and job search.

An important assignment in the course is requiring each student to complete a practice interview - students consistently share this is one of the most helpful experiences they gain from the class.

We are seeking alumni to assist in facilitating these mock interviews, in-person and virtually. We will provide volunteers training in advance as well as a clear interview guide. All you need to do is show up and be ready to chat with students!

Event Details: The event takes place on Monday, March 16th with interviews happening from 5:30-7pm. We are asking volunteers to commit their time from 5-7:30pm to offer buffer time, but if you cannot attend the full event we still encourage you to sign up.

This is a drop-in event for students. We do not required students to register in advance and take students on a first come, first serve basis. You will be meet with students representing a variety of degree levels and majors. Since the interviews are general, you do not need to know about the student's major or career path or conduct the interview.

To expand our reach, we are offering this event simultaneously in-person and virtually, though the event will run the same for both formats. Please make sure to select your preferred attendance method.

Mines is looking for alumni to submit a short 2–3-minute video to support all first- and second-year students in their CSM 101 & 202 courses.  Your video will be influential in helping students consider the breadth of majors available to them and what the experience and opportunities are like for that area of study.  Or how prioritizing your well-being/wellness in your personal or professional life has impacted you.  Specifically, the school would like stories from alumni that can speak on any of the below topics:

Decided to change majors while at MinesMade a career change from their selected majorMade a significant career after establishing yourself in your professionHow Mines supported your career growth 10+ years outHow prioritizing your wellness impacted your personal & professional life

The videos should not be more than 2-3 minutes long and the process is very easy to follow along and fulfill.  We hope to receive videos before the end of June.

All stories and all experiences are welcome.  Please support the next generation of Orediggers by sharing your Mines and professional experience.  Someone will be in touch with detailed instructions on how to prepare and submit your video once you register using the blue "Respond" button at the top of the page.

Volunteer: Share Your Knowledge With Students

The Alumni Knowledge Archive is a Mines Online program comprising of video interviews with Mines alumni who have at least five years of work experience. We make these interviews available to our faculty and staff developers, who select clips to use in our Online graduate programs and in continuing education courses to help bring learning to life.

If you graduated with any degree from Mines, have at least five years of experience in the working world, and have an interest in sharing your expertise, we’d love to hear from you. We’re particularly interested in finding alumni who can share their insights in:

Energy systems and related challenges; Executive training; Digital shifts.

We customize the questions to your experience. You might share:

Practical examples that help our faculty explain the ‘why’ to students; Teach a short lesson on managing projects or another ‘soft’ skill; Guidance on a technical skill; Or insights into big issues impacting the world or a specific STEM field.

Steps involved

Use the Volunteer platform to let us know you're interested. We'll reach out to learn more about your background and discuss the recording process. The interview itself usually lasts around an hour and is remotely recorded.
